Jaw coupling inserts: when yellow isn’t the answer

92 Shore yellow is the general-purpose AROFLEX spider. It is not the only one, and it is not a torque limiter.

Yellow 92 Shore is what we sell unless you say otherwise. It handles ordinary misalignment and a bit of shock on pumps and fans.

If the spider is powdered after three months, the coupling is too small, the shafts are too far out, or the load is punching. A harder spider (98) lasts longer in torque and dies faster in misalignment. A softer one does the opposite.

Zero-backlash GS spiders are a different part. Do not drop a standard spider into a GS hub and call it servo-ready.

Keep a spare insert on the plant. The hubs usually outlive several spiders. We hold AROFLEX sizes on the shelf in Salford.
